I Need Help!

Hello lovelies! I need help.

To my readers, if i still have some. 🙂 I need your opinion on this one.

I’m not sure if you are aware that I started a youtube channel a year ago. Then I abandoned it for months because of this pandemic. Covid 19 consumed me. Not because I got sick – but because it drained me physically, mentally, emotionally and creatively (did I used the work correctly? lol).

I was blogging that time but I realized I’m only posting my rants about the disease, and my struggle as a nurse during this period. So I realized nobody really wants or care to read those kind of stuff.

Then with my youtube, I don’t know what to post since I can’t travel and I can’t shop and build a new fish tank because of this pandemic of course – what else.

Now I started making video in my bathroom, of course where to go? The only place with good acoustic in my house. lol

Here’s the problem, now I realized I created a youtube channel for everybody that nobody cares. You see I have videos for fish tank hobbyist, for nurses, and for people that likes travelling. It became a Youtube Channel with Multiple Niche.

I did a cardinal sin. I should stick in one Niche. Now I don’t know how will I proceed, should I continue doing this multiple niche? Or should I just focus on one? And if yes, which one do you think I should stick to? PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE. I will wait for your answer guys. Thanks.

Your’s Truly.

I am leaving you with one of my favorite songs lately 🙂 Stay safe everyone.

Thanks for the time reading and leaving a comment. I enjoy fish tank, and I enjoy sharing things that works for me. Teaching people practical things that works for me. That’s where my “How To” video started. But Im just conflicted should I focus on just one niche?

Finding a niche is always the hardest part. Hmmm, maybe you could do a case study of your videos with the highest views and start from there…
Now that I think about it, I also have no particular niche. My topics just fall under the same umbrella, I supposed.

The one with the highest view is one video about fish tank. It’s a very particular video on how to remove algae on anubias plant. It’s keyword is ranking in both google and youtube searches. You think I should give up the practical how to videos? And stick with fish tanks?

You know what you have a good niche, beauty niche has a lot of followings and your sub niche “men fashion style grooming” you have don’t much competition so you have a strong headstart.

I am the one in trouble for resl, how could you place in one umbrella nursing travel and fish tank. The only way to do this is to get people fall in love with your personality, which is impossible on my end

I think i will give up traveling because there’s no way I can travel. So i am down on two conflicting niche “fish tank”and “nursing” Okay I will keep that in mind your suggestion, i will need to find a way to somewhat gel them together. Lol this is a challenge my friend. Really good luck to me.

Salamat sa support! Really appreciate it. I need to contemplate and plan more, i think this is a common problem when somebody started something without planning. At least your niche a related so whatever you decide in the future you will not have an issue like this lol. Ay naku natatawa tlaga ako sa ginawa ko sa channel ko kapag naiisip ko ngaun.

We all have our mishaps. 😅
My first year was all about introspection and a lot of drama. It was on my second year when I shifted away from that and dive into topic-based articles and posts. And of course, I still kept doing tmis. 🙂

I should know it better my friend. I am blogging since I was in my 20s. I abandoned 3 blogs with very good followings. And I worked with SEO and SMM for five years 🙂 it’s just i don’t follow rules in life. Look at my blog now I come and go 🙂 this is me in a nutshell lol one thing i am consistent and will never come and go – being a wife, a daughter, a friend, and a nurse. The rest di mo ako maasahan 🙂

Well, my case was I invested a lot of my time. I literally keep a monthly schedule of things to write and post consistently. Not to mention the promotions, I’ve recently tried to do paid ads on Facebook. I just hope I get more patrons to make this a livable source of income.

Pick the niche that has the least amount of competition or choose the niche you enjoy most. If it’s fish, then go with fish. Sticking to one thing is key, just like blogging. I see bloggers dabbling in this thing and that thing, only to wonder why they aren’t getting the engagement/traffic they were hoping for. Sticking to one thing is tough so my general rule is 90/10. 90% main topic, 10% unrelated topics (everything goes).

I would say do nursing videos but there’s quite a few of them on YouTube already. I have a very tough placement this term and have already had a couple anxiety attacks. I got placed on an acute neuro unit for final semester 😐 As if things aren’t challenging enough already…

That’s a very good recommendation 90/10 got it got it. I love both nursing and fish tank. The thing is i need to figure out the competition between the two of them and do 90/10. Acute Neuro unit is a good unit to learn, you will enjoy that unit 😉 🙂 i love cardio a lot, but neuro is a very good unit too. You think I will do well with nursing vids?

80/20 works too but I feel that 90/10 might be a better balance. Deep down I think your heart is saying to go with fish tank videos 🐠 Fun fact: I used to have a massive fish aquarium in my room as a kid. My fish didn’t live very long – I think there was an issue with the water. Fish are delicate and most ppl don’t know how to take care of them properly. Perhaps this could be your niche? How to care for fish; finding the perfect fish tank 🙌

I think you would do well with nursing videos because you are incredibly knowledgeable and experienced in nursing, health, and wellness 😊 Thank you for your reassurance that everything will be okay. This unit specifically deals with seizures, neurosurgery, and neurology. I’ve been on an orthopedic unit, a cardiac unit, and an internal medicine unit in the past. We barely learned about neruo in class or labs. I was hoping for orthopedics for final placement… definitely didn’t sign up for neuro 😕 Have you worked on a neuro unit before?

I will do 80/20 perhaps. Well fishtanks are fun BUT expensive lol. I started with fish tanks too as a kid and once i started making money after college i spent it for that hobby. Id rather buy fish tank related items than a signatured hand bag lol. I am more of aquascaping for planted tank, here’s one of my vid https://youtu.be/hzDPt4A2lbE

I can make tons of videos for nursing to educate young student nurses or new nurses to make them feel comfortable and not be scared. The only thing is, is there a lot of people doing that already? I was did not work in an neuro unit but i used to work in a stepdown unit so we also have a lot of neuro cases 🙂 🙂 from stroke to seizure to AMS etc. you will be really good with your asessments.

So you think i should do a research on competition first?

What is the difference between an acute unit and a step down unit? The unit I’ll be on also gets a lot of post-op stroke patients. In school we spent the least amount of time on neuro assessments. I thought I read the neuro chapters in my NCLEX prep-book but I didn’t, so I know what I will be doing today.

There may be a lot of nursing vids but honestly, I haven’t found a specific channel that really addresses anxiety, unpreparedness, and stress that nursing students have. Imposter syndrome is very real.

I’ll check out your channel. Right now I’m using my phone but I will check it out once I’m on my laptop 🙂 Aquascaping sounds really cool! Honestly I had fake plants in my fish aquarium. Pathetic, I know 😓

Acute unit is like a telemetry unit, ms unit, is your usual floor. Right now I work in an acute unit, this is where I moved after I left stepdown. Step down is where patients goes after they get transferred from ICU like if they get better, or if they get worse from the acute unit. It’s like the in between, or we also call it IMCU.

I stay away from watching those nursing vids it just reminds me of work lol. That’s why i dont really know the niche. My brother who’s not a nurse is the one telling me stories about those nurses that turns out to be youtubers.

Thanks for visiting my channel, i saw your comment. Yes aquascaping is such a cool thing to do 🙂 🙂 that’s my small tank that I did there. Everyone starts with fake plants trust me 🙂

Oh I see.. that makes sense. We don’t have a stepdown unit but several PCU units + ICU for various specialties. The more vids I watch on YouTube, the more confused I seem to get. I am currently studying a webinar powerpoint that a kind student sent me related to neurology. It makes waaaay more sense compared to the notes I was studying before (but still lacks some things like strokes etc.), but at least these notes break down the concepts for nurses and nursing students.

That is my secondary account which is linked to Google+. I will leave comments and subscribe to a few channels, but my actual YouTube channel (with uploaded videos) is a different channel, which I haven’t logged into in years. Personally, I couldn’t do vlogs since I don’t like seeing my face on camera. 😆

Yes some hospitals don’t have stepdowns, but lately a lot of them are converting some units to stepdowns because of the need.

In studying physiology and pathology you really need good sources. Because some sources can make things simplier for students to understand while others are really hard to follow. It goes the same with teachers 🙂 🙂

I believe you will do great in doing vlogs, you will just get used to seeing your face on camera. It’s weird in the beginning but you will get used to it. I am a supporter of trying out new things 🙂 🙂

I’ll continue to stay away from making vlogs, but who knows… maybe one day I will write a book instead? 🤔 It’s definitely weird seeing my face on camera and in photos 😂

Agreed, these notes are really helping me. I’m not using the class notes to study. Instead, I’m studying PowerPoint webinars a kind soul sent me and I’m reading the NCLEX prep textbook. I don’t really comprehend what I read from that textbook but it’s better than the class notes. It breaks stuff down into bite-sized pieces. I use the Saunders review textbook, digital copy since my cat destroyed the hard copy 😒

Writing a book is also a dream of mine, but that is something that I know is out of my ability 🙂 🙂 i remember saunders! When i was prepping for nclex i reas that book twice 🙂 🙂 that book is thick thickers than my pillow but I love it. It makes things easier for me.

It’s good you are preparing for nclex as early as now 🙂

The digital copy works for me. The physical copy has very bad water damage. I haven’t even read through the book once but it has helped me grasp concepts that didn’t make much sense before. This textbook helped me pass the cardiac exam in Term 5. Half the class failed that exam.

I also got a monthly subscription yesterday on nursing.com. I’m learning so much from their notes and videos. The subscription is kinda pricy but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to pass. 🙏🏻🌸🌸 I find hunting for notes/assessments online very time consuming and overwhelming.

We got to do what we got to do girl. I love that you are really taking it seriously – learning to be a good nurse. You are doing it the right way, understand concepts as much as you can while youre in school. You will find it handy when you start working in the hospital.

There’s a lot to know and I find it all quite overwhelming. I feel a bit better having this reference, plus there’s an app on my phone that I can use if I need it. I’m sure that other people haven’t even started reviewing their notes yet and I really don’t want to be that kind of person.

You are a very responsible nursing student 🙂 🙂 I am excited to welcome you to the nursing profession 🙂 Im pretty sure in no time you will be working on the floor. I love training new nurses, because I know that they don’t have yet the bad habits to correct. And they are very eager to learn.

Hahaha the bad habits. Yes… I have seen experienced nurses with bad habits. If I would ask them about it, they would say not to do what they do. 🤦‍♀️ I’m nervous to start this semester but feel a bit better knowing I’m doing what I can to prepare. There’s still a lot left to do! 😆

I sometimes call bad habits as shortcuts, you can do shortcuts when you are already experienced and you know that it won’t really affect your patient’s safety. Sometimes i see new nurses doing shortcuts while they are still under preceptorship, so when I am their preceptor I always tell them when you are with me don’t do that. Unlearn what the other nurses taught you. I chose what tricks to teach them. Oh yes just do whatever you can, and you will do God for sure. Anzxiety is the fear of unknown, so it’s pretty normal.

Before I read the other comments, let me say this. Do what you love. Do it for you. I’ve been blogging for literally years. The past three have been more in earnest. Recently my viewers have gone up, but few, if any, ever comment. I could give up, or I can realize that I am building a body of work. One day, it will be something everyone wants to read. Or not. I can only do it because I want to, and it helps me to process. As for the niche thing – there is nothing wrong with a little potpourri. Play to the one, not the many. Enjoy what you do, and keep doing it. Now, I’m off to read the other comments. Don’t give up!

Thanks Deborah, I really need to figure out what I really want to do that will be for the long run. What’s in my youtube right now are the things that I really love to do, but kinda it’s all over the place. 🙂 but you are totally right, i have to do it for myself. I really appreciate you finding time to read and leave your opinion, take care. 🙂

Hi AL, I wish I could help you but to be honest I only use YouTube to listen some music rarely 🤪 so I would not know the trends…
However, I will advise to do what most you like, otherwise if becomes another job will be very easy to abandon it 🤪
